Amazing communities continue to flourish on YouTube, including many Black creators that are making content around art, activism, gaming, parenting, photography, and more. And brands and agencies that want to make a positive impact on the world while reaching and engaging their target audiences should support the Black community on the platform.
However, we sometimes see dated and overly restrictive approaches to keyword blocking and contextual targeting which limits Black creators from being included in, and benefitting from, brand ad campaigns. Ad revenue is critical to these creators’ growth and visibility.
We believe that when advertisers are planning media strategies, they should be thinking about how their ad dollars can support diverse communities.
To make it easier for agencies and their brand clients to support Black creators on YouTube, we’ve made our inclusion list of brand-suitable Black YouTube creators available free of charge. This placement list enables advertisers to reach a massive audience against great, brand-suitable content, while allowing important Black creators to gain increased visibility and additional ad and partnership opportunities.
Here’s a quick look at some of the YouTube channels that advertisers should be supporting through their ad dollars:
Asia Jackson
Actress & content creator Asia Jackson is based in Los Angeles, where she creates weekly content to help her viewers become the best versions of themselves through fashion, beauty, self-care, and vlogs. She’s also appeared in Modern Family, Speechless, and many other TV shows.
Prince Ea
Richard Williams, better known by his stage name Prince EA, is an American rapper, spoken word artist, music video director, and rights activist from St Louis, Missouri. His content uses comedy to encourage his viewers to grow and evolve their ways of thinking.
For Harriet
Black feminist community and podcast network For Harriet features important conversations around black culture, entertainment, and more.
John Branch IV Photography
John Branch shares tutorials and reviews from his work as photographer, including comparisons of lenses, editing tutorials, and insights into the business of being a wedding photographer
D4Darious
Director, writer, cinematographer, and Producer Darius Britt also creates content for YouTube, including movie reviews and tips on screenwriting and moviemaking. He also directed the feature film “Unsound” on the fest circuit, screening at over 20 international film festivals, winning 7 awards including best director at The Pan African Film Festival in 2015.
