Inclusive Media Initiative Creator Q&A: Samuel Hutchins
Pixability’s Inclusive Media Initiative amplifies the voices of diverse creators, fostering representation and connection across digital media. By showcasing YouTube creators from varied backgrounds and identities, we aim to challenge stereotypes and celebrate inclusivity.
In honor of Black History Month, we are honored to introduce Samuel Hutchins from Black Menswear.
Theresa: Can you share a bit about your personal journey and how you became involved with Black Menswear?
Samuel: My journey with Black Menswear began with a deep appreciation for the power of visual storytelling and its ability to reshape narratives. As someone passionate about data-driven insights and brand strategy, I saw an opportunity to amplify the cultural and economic impact of Black representation in media. My background in marketing analytics and digital media strategy allowed me to help position Black Menswear as not just a movement, but a cultural impact agency driving real change through fashion, media, and digital storytelling.
Theresa: What inspired the creation of Black Menswear, and how has the organization evolved over time?
Samuel: Black Menswear was born out of a desire to challenge negative media portrayals of Black men and provide a space where confidence, success, and cultural pride take center stage. What started as viral flashmob photoshoots in cities across the U.S. and globally has since evolved into a full-fledged media and cultural platform, helping brands connect authentically with Black audiences through campaigns, content, and strategic partnerships.
Theresa: How does Black Menswear aim to reshape the narrative around Black men in society?
Samuel: We understand that representation shapes perception, opportunity, and legacy. Through curated content, high-impact brand collaborations, and immersive experiences, we showcase the diversity, ambition, and sophistication of Black men. Our goal is to make these images and stories the norm rather than the exception—not just during Black History Month, but year-round.
Theresa: Can you share a story or moment that highlights the impact Black Menswear has had on the black community?
Samuel: One of the most powerful moments was when a young boy attended one of our flashmob events and told his mother, “I want to be like them when I grow up.” That single moment solidified why we do this work—when we create positive, aspirational images of Black men, we shape the way future generations see themselves. That’s a legacy that goes beyond fashion; it’s about possibility and empowerment.
Theresa: What role does fashion play in promoting positive representation and cultural pride within the Black community?
Samuel: Fashion is a form of cultural storytelling—it reflects heritage, confidence, and personal expression. Historically, Black men have used fashion as a tool of resistance and self-definition, from the Harlem Renaissance to the rise of Black dandyism. At Black Menswear, we embrace that tradition, using fashion as a vehicle to challenge stereotypes, celebrate excellence, and empower our community.
Theresa: How does Black Menswear celebrate Black History Month, and what are your goals for this year’s observance?
Samuel: Black History Month is a time for both reflection and action. This year, we’re focused on storytelling that connects the past with the present, through: content campaigns highlighting Black pioneers in fashion, business, and media; community activations that bring people together through shared cultural experiences; and strategic brand partnerships that create opportunities for Black creators and entrepreneurs.
Our goal is to make sure Black history isn’t confined to one month—we want to extend the impact year-round through meaningful collaborations and visibility.
Theresa: Who are some historical or contemporary Black figures that inspire your work and vision?
Samuel:
Gordon Parks – His work in photography and film reshaped how Black life was documented and seen in mainstream media.
Dapper Dan – A pioneer in luxury streetwear who turned fashion into a form of rebellion and cultural innovation.
Virgil Abloh – His ability to bridge high fashion and streetwear continues to inspire our creative approach.
Each of these figures challenged the status quo, created space where there was none, and built legacies that continue to influence culture today.
Theresa: What advice would you give to organizations looking to amplify Black voices and stories authentically?
Samuel:
Move beyond performative gestures – Authentic representation isn’t about one-time campaigns; it’s about long-term commitment.
Invest in Black creators and platforms – Provide resources, access, and opportunities for sustainable impact.
Tell nuanced stories – Blackness isn’t monolithic; showcase the full spectrum of Black experiences and success.
Theresa: What’s next for Black Menswear? Are there any upcoming projects or events you’re particularly excited about?
Samuel: This year, we’re expanding our partnerships with luxury brands, amplifying creator-driven storytelling, and producing more immersive experiences like the upcoming Spirited Soiree event series leading into the Kentucky Derby. We’re also building new digital initiatives that blend fashion, media, and data-driven brand collaborations.
Theresa: The 2025 Met Gala theme celebrates the history and influence of Black dandyism. How do you hope Black Menswear will lean into this theme, and what message do you hope to convey about the intersection of fashion, culture, and identity?
Samuel: This theme is an incredible opportunity to honor Black men’s influence on luxury fashion, tailoring, and style evolution. Black Menswear plans to highlight the historical roots of Black dandyism through editorial content and partnerships, showcase contemporary Black designers and influencers redefining luxury today, and leverage the moment to continue shifting industry conversations around representation, equity, and access in high fashion.
Theresa: How can individuals and brands get involved with Black Menswear to support its mission?
Samuel:
Collaborate with us on content and campaigns – We create impact-driven storytelling that bridges culture and commerce.
Sponsor our community initiatives – From events to digital activations, there are plenty of ways to drive visibility and impact.
Engage with our digital platforms – Support Black creators by amplifying their work and engaging with our movement online.
Theresa: What’s one piece of advice you would give to young Black men striving to make their mark in the world?
Samuel: Own your narrative -The world will try to define you, but your authenticity, confidence, and ambition are your greatest assets. Surround yourself with people who elevate you, seek knowledge relentlessly, and never shrink your presence to fit someone else’s expectations.
Theresa: The Inclusive Media Initiative is committed to supporting diverse creators and amplifying underrepresented voices. How do you see opportunities for Black Menswear to connect with this mission, and what strategies do you hope to use to bring more diverse creators into the fold?
Samuel: We see a huge opportunity in working with IMI to scale influencer marketing strategies for diverse talent, leverage data to drive equity in media placements, and develop long-term partnerships that prioritize diverse creators beyond seasonal campaigns.
