Meet the Pixers is our blog series where we introduce you to the talented folks who make our company a success. Today, we’re featuring Sam Coleman, our Human Resources Manager.

Background:

Interestingly, I didn’t always know I wanted to work in Human Resource/People Operations. After graduating from Clark University with my Bachelors in English and Women’s and Gender Studies, I went on to a full-time Master’s program at UMASS Boston. On the day I began my graduate studies, I also started a new job as an Office Administrator/HR Assistant, which (coincidentally and unknowingly) kickstarted my HR career. The rest is history! I became really passionate about all things HR: from Benefits to Employee Relations to Performance Management and even HR Technologies. Once I graduated with my Master’s in Public Administration and Public Policy, I expanded my job scope to global HR work at a new company in the heart of Boston. Shortly thereafter, I joined Pixability. It’s been 6 years since I started my HR career, and I am excited to continue engaging in the employee life cycle, learning new things, and building relationships and a network with my colleagues. In my spare time, I work at my part-time job at a seafood restaurant (I’ve been there for 12 years!), spend lots of time with family and friends, attend Barre and Spin class, and take my golden retriever (Josie June) on many adventures!

What excites you the most about working in our industry?

From my perspective, we work in a highly-innovative, ever-changing industry. As an HR leader, I look forward to upskilling and challenging employees as well as hiring talented individuals across functional teams to not only help find innovative solutions to the evolving market, but to help us find the next new thing to work on and make a core part of our business.

What is the last video you watched on YouTube?

I watched an educational video about the origins and history of the upcoming Diwali (Festival of Lights) celebration.

If you could have one superpower for a day, what would it be and why?

I would pick telekinesis, which is the ability to move objects at a distance with a mental power. This could be great for picking up my pup’s toys for a day!

What drew you to work at Pixability?

Pixability and its employees take great pride in cultivating and maintaining a culture centered on fun, wellness, collaboration, inclusion, and team-building (to name a few). Even in a remote and distributed work environment, Pixers come together to ensure everyone has a place to express their identities and interests, to educate one another on their work experiences and disciplinary expertise, and (importantly) to have fun. I knew I wanted to work in that kind of environment, so I consider myself lucky to help foster this in my day-to-day work at Pixability.
