Meet the Pixers - Tom Barnes
May 13, 2022We’re excited to kick off “Meet the Pixers,” our new blog series where we will introduce you to the talented folks who make our company a success.
Tell us a little bit about your background:
Before I started at Pixability, I worked as a photographer/videographer and content specialist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. I’ve always loved video and writing, so joining Pixability felt like a good fit. I started as a marketing copywriter six years ago, and now I lead our content strategy, demand generation, and marketing operations.
What is the last thing you watched on YouTube?
I recently started following Dime Store Adventures after a friend sent me one of their videos about the folklore of a small town in Connecticut, where local history alleges that a large monument was built by a timber baron so he wouldn’t have to leave an inheritance to his family. The creator investigates nearby libraries and historical societies to figure out whether or not the legend is true. It’s a wild ride!
What is the first thing you think of when you hear “CTV”?
It’s how I watch anything at all, really. YouTube, Twitch, HBO Max, Hulu, whatever I’m watching, it all happens in the living room through a connected TV screen.
What is your favorite thing about working at Pixability?
One of my favorite parts about working here is I’ve had the opportunity to take on a variety of different roles and projects as the marketing team, and our company, has evolved. I’m also very proud of how the team adapted to a remote-first work environment. It was inspiring to watch how our team kept our volunteer and culture initiatives going, even when we weren’t going into the office anymore.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in their career?
Don’t be afraid to try new things! Much of the work I do now was completely out of my wheelhouse five or six years ago. But learning new skills and working on new projects was exciting, and it kept my job fresh and interesting.
